The FSU Discovery Days: Celebrating the International Year of Quantum

Dr. Yanzhu Chen, Assistant Professor of Physics, speaks on quantum computing superposition and entanglement.

The FSU Discover Days: Celebrating the International Year of Quantum featured 12 speakers and 15 poster presentations and attracted more than 70 attendees, including graduate and undergraduate students from many disciplines eager to take their first step into quantum science.

The speakers gave 10-minute presentations that highlighted the basic principles of quantum science, and showcased an array of research and study opportunities that are available to undergraduate students interested in furthering their education in this burgeoning field with applications that include computing, semiconductors and transistors, GPS technology and quantum cryptography.

Event organizer, Quantum Initiative faculty member, Dr. Cyprian Lewandowski said, "We had a great turnout, and I was thrilled to see the undergraduate students approaching faculty with questions about the program. We look forward to an even bigger turnout of undergrads at our next event - about 6 months from now."

The event took place at the newly opened Interdisciplinary Research and Commercialization Building (IRCB), and all presentations were recorded. The video clips will be made available through the Quantum Initiative website soon, to allow more student and public access to quantum science.
