Florida State University (FSU) continues its faculty hiring initiative in Quantum Science and Engineering (QSE). We seek individuals specializing in all experimental and theoretical aspects of quantum devices and quantum information, including but not limited to advanced measurements, quantum engineering, quantum materials, quantum optics, and cutting-edge theoretical, computational, and architectural techniques.
Background
FSU has made bold recent investments in QSE, creating an interdisciplinary FSU Quantum Initiative. The mission of FSU Quantum is to accelerate the discovery of novel quantum phenomena that can impact the design of engineered systems for quantum information processing, communication, sensing, and algorithms, as well as devices and hardware that rely on quantum protocols.
Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be expected to develop and nurture research programs that will be internationally recognized, to attract and sustain external funding, to incorporate interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers across campus, and to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and excellence in education. Expectations will also include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral researchers, and engaging in college and professional service.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as Computer Science, Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or another field appropriate to the study of quantum science. Additional necessary qualities include evidence of the promise of academic and research excellence that will lead to future distinction. Applicants must exhibit strong potential in research and a high level of dedication to teaching.
How to Apply
Qualified candidates can apply at the Faculty Careers page by choosing “Search Careers”, then “View All Jobs”, and applying for the opportunity under job ID 56090. (If you are a current FSU employee, apply via myFSU > Self Service.) All applicants are required to complete the online application and upload:
- A cover letter
- A full curriculum vitae
- A 2-page research statement
- A 1-page teaching statement
- Applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by email to quantum-hires@fsu.edu to complete the application.
Review of applications will begin on October 31, 2024 and continue until the positions have been filled.
Considerations
These are Faculty positions. Upon appointment to the position, successful applicants will be required to complete a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with FSU Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.

Florida State University seeks multiple postdoctoral fellows to join the FSU Quantum Initiative. Applicants with research interests in all areas of Quantum Science and Engineering (QSE), including but not limited to quantum algorithms and theory, quantum molecular and solid-state materials, quantum devices, and quantum-enabling periphery, are invited to apply. Successful applicants will be hosted by FSU Quantum faculty members (see home). Applicants interested in this opportunity should contact prospective faculty advisors (sponsors) to discuss potential research plans. Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. within the last five years (but exceptions can be made on an individual basis) and must have demonstrated a strong record of academic and research accomplishments. The FSU Quantum Postdoctoral Fellowships are intended for a 2-year appointment, with the annual salary of $65,000 + benefits.
Interested applicants should e-mail the following materials to quantum-fellowship@fsu.edu:
- A statement of prior research accomplishments (one page) and research interests (one-two pages) that will be pursued at FSU. The statement should identify a faculty sponsor associated with the FSU Quantum. The applicants must discuss mutual research interests and proposed work with the faculty sponsor before submitting the application.
- Curriculum vitae, including the complete list of publications (include ORCID number and/or WoS number, if available), awards, and science/engineering education/mentorship activities.
- Two letters of recommendation should be sent on applicant’s behalf to quantum-fellowship@fsu.edu. In addition, a letter of endorsement should be submitted by the FSU Quantum Faculty Sponsor to the same email address.
Official graduate transcripts will be required from successful applicants to whom formal offers of employment have been extended.
