FSU Welcomes one of MIT Technology Review’s “Innovators Under 35”
FSU is proud to share that Dr. Xianjing Zhou, our new hire in the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering through the FSU Quantum Initiative, was recently selected by MIT Technology Review as one of the “Innovators Under 35” in 2024 for his groundbreaking work on the first-ever single-electron qubit system on solid neon.
At FSU, Dr. Zhou will continue his research to advance a new quantum information system: electron-on-solid-neon, which he helped establish. He hopes this can become a platform with quantum applications in computing, communication, and sensing; it would also be a versatile testbed for the exploration of fundamental physics, including quantum optics.
As a professor at FSU, Dr. Zhou will develop a new course, Introduction to Superconducting Quantum Computing, which will debut for the first time in the Spring 2026 semester.
Dr. Zhou believes it is the “perfect time to join FSU” because of its state-of-the-art facilities and seamless abilities for collaboration. Dr. Zhou is just one example of the innovative people and research that FSU fosters through its Quantum Initiative.
